Richard Childress is a legendary figure in American motorsports — a NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee, championship-winning team owner, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and devoted patriot. From his humble beginnings racing a 1947 Plymouth on North Carolina’s short tracks, Childress went on to build one of the most successful teams in NASCAR history, Richard Childress Racing (RCR). Under his leadership, RCR captured six NASCAR Cup Series championships with Dale Earnhardt and became the first organization to win titles across NASCAR’s top three national series. Today, his legacy continues through his grandsons, Austin and Ty Dillon, who carry forward the family’s racing tradition.

Beyond the racetrack, Richard Childress has demonstrated a lifelong commitment to community, country, and service. He founded Childress Vineyards in Lexington, North Carolina, and co-established the Childress Institute for Pediatric Trauma, which works to prevent injury and save young lives. A passionate outdoorsman and supporter of America’s veterans and first responders, Childress embodies the values of hard work, perseverance, and giving back — qualities that align closely with the mission of the Veterans Life Center to help those who have served our nation build fulfilling, productive lives.
