The Veterans Life Center is a residential facility for 21stCentury veterans who are having difficulty reintegrating into civilian life. But it is much more than just room and board. VLC residents are able to access a battery of services including Mental Fitness and Behavioral Health Therapy, Physical Health Care, Life Skills Training, Spiritual and Family Counseling and Vocational Education. And here is the key: every veteran that comes to us will help design their own, custom program fitted to their goals and aptitudes.
Because of the Veterans Life Center, it’s important to note that in 3 short years, we have produced significant outcomes. One of my favorites is Kyle ( I know we are not supposed to have favorites, but Kyle reminds us all what grit, discipline and determination really means.) Meet Kyle’s Mom, Mary Jane Taylor.

Kyle is a former resident of the Veterans Life Center, has struggled with substance abuse and PTSD since departing the service. Kyle’s mom has struggled with ways to support him and had pretty much given up, then Kyle found a place at the Veterans Life Center, he is a VLC graduate, new homeowner, currently in school and working full time, while maintaining his sobriety and learning how to cope with the traumas of war.
Key Successes since opening the doors in 2020
- Since we opened our doors in September 2020, we have provided more than 48,000 nights of shelter for people who were previously homeless and more than 200,000 meals for people who previously didn’t know where their next meal was coming from.
- Our current group of residents were cumulatively more than $325,000 in debt when they came to us, and today they have more than $425,000 in savings, as a result of our financial literacy program. Shout to First National Bank for their commitment to veterans!
- Four of our former residents are now homeowners, and two others are about to join them in that cornerstone of the American dream. No other program I know of takes people from homelessness to home ownership in less than two years.
- Many of our residents are taking college level classes, and 14 of them made the Dean’s List in the last term.
- Seventy percent of our residents have a substance abuse disorder, since October of ’24, HIGHER than ninety percent (90%) have passed random breathalyzer testing and are currently enrolled or have successfully completed a substance abuse program.
- We currently have seven residents who have been at the center for 12 months and have achieved and maintained sobriety.
- In December, we reconnected ten residents with family members, including children.
- In December, half the residents successfully spent the holidays with family
- Seventy percent of the residents have a mental health disorder, all have been assessed, and ninety percent (90%) are in treatment or under a physician’s care.
- We have supported over 375 veterans
